If I go with XARC, I will supply either a 24-bit or 16-bit stereo mixdown at 44.1khz or 44.8khz. I assume this will be upconverted for processing? If so, would/could I recieve the higher-resolution version in addition to the 16-bit 44.1khz CD standard version?

I'm wondering because, if it does sound better, would it be suitable to put on a DVD-Audio disc? If not, I'd just stick with good ol' CD.

What type of dithering does XARC use to produce the CD-standard master from higher-bit originals?

Hello again skeetervh,

the best format to supply for the mastering should use the maximum bit-depth you can export/capture at (e.g. 24bit or up to 32 or 64bit floating point) and the samplerate you´ve used during the mixing.

As you already assumed right, a higher resolution is used during the mastering and if you wish you can receive the final master in your preferred resolution (e.g. for DVD-Audio).

The dithering and the relating sub-settings depend on the type of material and mainly on it´s dynamic behavior. Usually TC MegaBitMax, POW-R or UV-22HR are being used.

Thank you and regards,
Lorenz
